Account and data deletion

What deleting your account means

Deleting a SimpleRead account ends your access and erases the personal data tied to it, such as your profile, reading history, annotations and settings. Deletion cannot be undone. Some records, listed further down, are kept or only anonymised.

How to delete it in the app or on the website

Sign in to your account, in the app or on the website, and follow the path that matches your case.

  • Adult account: open Profile > Delete account, read the warning and type the confirmation word shown on screen.
  • Guardian with children in the family: first remove each child in Family. Once all of them are removed, delete your own account in Profile > Delete account.
  • Child account created by the guardian (with a username and PIN): only the guardian can delete it, in Family, by removing the child.

Cannot sign in?

Email SimpleRead's data protection officer (DPO) at team@simpleread.foundation asking for deletion. In the message, tell us:

  • the email address of the account;
  • whether the account belongs to an adult or to a child. For a child, the guardian must make the request.

What is not erased or is only anonymised

Even after deletion, some records remain for the reasons below.

  • Consent records: kept as legal proof that consent was given or withdrawn.
  • Access events, such as sign-ins and reads: kept anonymised, with no link back to you, so that figures already reported to schools do not change.
  • Family page-usage counters: kept, because they are the basis for billing.
  • Classrooms: they stay, with the students' records, only unlinked from the deleted teacher.
  • Copies held by payment, AI and messaging providers: governed by each provider's own retention policy.
